LIVING IN TOWNSEND
Townsend is a tiny city located in the state of Tennessee. With a population of 444 people and three constituent neighborhoods, Townsend is the 364th largest community in Tennessee.
Unlike some cities where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Townsend is neither predominantly one nor the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Townsend is a city of sales and office workers, service providers, and professionals. There are especially a lot of people living in Townsend who work in sales jobs (27.33%), office and administrative support (9.88%), and management occupations (9.88%).
Of important note, Townsend is also a city of artists. Townsend has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Townsend’s character.
A relatively large number of people in Townsend telecommute to their jobs. Overall, about 11.98% of the workforce works from home. While this may seem like a small number, as a fraction of the total workforce it ranks among the highest in the country. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.
The city is relatively quiet, having a combination of lower population density and few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. For example, Townsend has relatively fewer families with younger children, and/or college students. Combined, this makes Townsend a pretty quiet place to live overall. If you like quiet, you will probably enjoy it here.
As is often the case in a small city, Townsend doesn’t have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.
The population of Townsend overall has a level of education that is slightly above the US average for all US cities and towns of 21.84%. Of adults 25 and older in Townsend, 23.67% have at least a bachelor’s degree.
The per capita income in Townsend in 2010 was $30,185, which is wealthy relative to Tennessee, and upper middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $120,740 for a family of four. However, Townsend contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.
